Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan 2026
The Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan (RGVS) 2026 was a two-day national conclave held in New Delhi and concluded on 29 June 2026. The Ministry of Rural Development organised the event, and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired the Sammelan. The conclave brought together Rural Development Ministers, senior officials, and policymakers from 29 States and Union Territories.
Rural Development Framework
The Sammelan focused on the implementation of the VB-GRAMG Act, 2025, and on the theme of Viksit Gram, Viksit Bharat. The discussions covered rural development planning, Gram Panchayat empowerment, women-led livelihoods, rural housing, rural connectivity, and climate-resilient livelihoods. Gram Panchayats are the basic units of local self-government in rural India under the Panchayati Raj system.
Women-Led Livelihoods and SHGs
The Sammelan launched the SARAS Shakti collection and a Coffee Table Book linked to products made by Women Self-Help Groups. Self-Help Groups are small community-based groups that promote savings, credit access, and livelihood activities among members, especially women in rural areas. The Lakhpati Didi initiative aims to support women in rural households to achieve annual incomes of at least ₹1 lakh.
Employment and Scheme Transition
The Viksit Bharat – VB-GRAM-G scheme is scheduled for nationwide rollout from 1 July 2026. The scheme will replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, and the government has approved an interim allocation of ₹95,682 crore for the transition period. The announced plan also includes expansion of the Lakhpati Didi initiative to six crore women by 2029 through a proposed ₹10 lakh crore bank linkage programme over five years.
