The World Economic Forum (WEF), during its Davos meeting has announced that it is building a “Global Collaboration Village” as the virtual future of public-private cooperation.
The initiative is being launched in collaboration with Accenture and Microsoft. WEF launched the initiative for Defining and Building the Metaverse and it will bring together key global stakeholders to address critical global issues.

Notes:
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has become the first Gulf state to record a case of monkeypox. The Czech Republic and Slovenia also recently reported their first cases.
18 other countries have detected the virus outside its usual African base. Outbreaks of the virus have been found in Europe, Australia, and America. The symptoms often include fever and rash but the infection is usually mild, as per the health experts. As per the WHO, the virus can be contained with the right response in countries outside of Africa.

The World Economic Forum’s latest study released the travel and tourism development index, which assessed as many as 117 countries.
India was placed at the 54th spot in the overall rankings, down from 46th in 2019. As per the study, after two years of slowdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, India’s travel and tourism sector has shown signs of recovery and is the top performer in South Asia.

eVTOL stands for ‘Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL)’. The eVTOL aircrafts use electric power to hover, take off, and land vertically.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation, while speaking at India @ 2047, a part of the 7th edition of India Ideas Conclave announced that India would rope in eVTOL manufacturing bases in the country after U.S. Airforce and the Canadian Airforce get regulatory certifications.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022, India’s biggest drone festival on 27 May 2022 at Delhi’s Pragati Maidan.

WHO (World Health Organization) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was reappointed for a second five-year term on May 24, 2022 by the member countries of the United Nations Health Agency.

Reet Ka Maqbara, a Hindi novel written by Gitanjali Shree based in New Delhi, an ordinary literary figure. It won the International Booker Prize 2022, translated into English by Daisy Rockwell based in the United States. Sand Ka Maqbara, originally titled Rhett Ki Samadhi and published in 2018, is the first Hindi work translated into English to receive the prestigious recognition. Penguin India released its English translation in March 2022. The book has also been the winner of the English Pain Award.

Japan has topped the Travel and Tourism Development Index 2021, followed by the United States, Spain, France and Germany. India is ranked 54th with a score of 4.2 which is eight less than 2019.

On May 28, 2022 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Nano Urea (Liquid) Plant manufactured at IFFCO, Kalol (Gujarat). He also addressed the leaders of various cooperative institutions on ‘Sahakar Se Prosperity’ at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. The Nano Urea (Liquid) Plant, approximately Rs.175 crore, will provide the means to help farmers increase productivity and increase their income. The plant will produce around 1.5 lakh bottles of 500 ml capacity per day.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) completed the final excavation work of Nechiphu Tunnel on the Tezpur-Tawang road in Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier, BRO completed the excavation of ‘Sela tunnel’ on the same route. Nechiphu Tunnel is at an altitude of 5,700 feet. The two tunnels will aid in deployind troops and weapons along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
