Recently Anurag Thakur, the Lok Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh visited Allard Square in the French coastal town Saint-Tropez, during his visit to Cannes Film Festival. He paid floral tributes to Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Jean-Francois Allard- a general in Singh’s army and Allard’s spouse Princess Bannu Pan Dei- who was from Himachal Pradesh.

An ancient forest has been discovered at the bottom of a giant karst sinkhole in Leye County in south China’s Autonomous Region.
The sinkhole can be categorised as a large sinkhole according to its dimensions. Sinkholes are depressions formed in the ground when layers of the Earth’s surface start collapsing. They form in areas of karst terrains , where rocks below the surface of the Earth can be dissolved by groundwater.

Japan has topped the Travel and Tourism Development Index 2021, followed by the United States, Spain, France and Germany. India is ranked 54th with a score of 4.2 which is eight less than 2019.

India and UAE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Bilateral Cooperation on Climate Action.
The agreement was signed between Bhupendra Yadav, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE’s Climate Envoy and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, in New Delhi on May 26, 2022. Its basic objective is to establish a framework that facilitates and enhances bilateral cooperation on climate action, and also contributes to the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

The United Nations Security Council has given a resolution to renew the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for one year until May 31, 2023.

On May 28, 2022 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Nano Urea (Liquid) Plant manufactured at IFFCO, Kalol (Gujarat). He also addressed the leaders of various cooperative institutions on ‘Sahakar Se Prosperity’ at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. The Nano Urea (Liquid) Plant, approximately Rs.175 crore, will provide the means to help farmers increase productivity and increase their income. The plant will produce around 1.5 lakh bottles of 500 ml capacity per day.

World Hunger Day is observed on 28 May with the aim of raising awareness about those people. Its motives are inspired to support people who are starving around the world.

The Indian Institute of Technology in Ropar, Punjab, along with Australia-based Monash University has developed a unique detector named ‘FakeBuster’ to detect fraudsters participating in a virtual conference without anyone’s knowledge.
It can also detect manipulated faces on social media to defame or make fun of someone.

The two-day NADI-3 (Natural Allies in Development and Interdependence) Asian Sangam River Conference was held in Guwahati from May 28-29, 2022. NADI, which means river, is an initiative to clarify and activate the collective vision of the sub-regional. Cooperation in the Bay of Bengal region and with Southeast Asia. It recognizes the region south of the Himalayas as a contiguous confluence of river valleys from the Ganges and the Brahmaputra to the Mekong.

Tirupati-based writer K.V. Raghupati has been selected for the International Panorama Golden Award by White Falcon Publishing for his book, The Mountain is Calling, published in 2019. Raghupati, an English professor who retired from the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur, has been writing since the 1980s.
