Vinai Kumar Saxena, who is currently serving as the Chairperson of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi.
The President of India has accepted the resignation of former L-G Anil Baijal and appointed Saxena as his successor. He was also the member of National Committee headed by Prime Minister to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

ONGC has become the first exploration and production (E&P) company in India to trade domestic gas on the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX).
The first online trade was made recently by ONGC on India’s first automated national level Gas Exchange, IGX. The gas traded is from ONGC Krishna Godavari block.

The state-of-the-art Supercomputer, PARAM PORUL has been recently inaugurated at NIT Tiruchirappalli.
It is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST).  The PARAM PORUL supercomputing facility is set up under Phase 2 of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). It is based on Direct Contact Liquid Cooling technology to obtain a high power usage effectiveness and reduced operational cost.

Popularly known as “Lion of Punjab”, Ranjit Singh was the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire. He reigned the kingdom from 1801 to 1839.
Recently Anurag Thakur, the Lok Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh visited Allard Square in the French coastal town Saint-Tropez, during his visit to Cannes Film Festival. He paid floral tributes to Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Jean-Francois Allard- a general in Singh’s army and Allard’s spouse Princess Bannu Pan Dei- who was from Himachal Pradesh.

In Sri Lanka, the proposed 21st amendment to the Constitution, aimed at curbing the unfettered powers of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, was presented before the Cabinet.
Sri Lanka’s new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the amendment will be distributed among party leaders for their observations, following which it will be sent to the Cabinet for final approval. After massive victory in the general elections in 2020, the Rajapaksa family amended the Constitution to restore presidential powers.

Captain Abhilasha Barak became the first woman officer to join the Army Aviation Corps (AAC) as a fighter aviator to fly a fleet of helicopters. He was honored with the prestigious Wing along with 36 Army pilots by the Director General and Colonel Commandant Army Aviation during a ceremony held at Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik on May 25, 2022.

The two-day event of India Drone Festival 2022 is being organized in New Delhi on May 27 and 28. More than 1600 delegates including government officials, foreign diplomats, armed forces, central armed police forces, PSUs, private companies and drone startups will participate in the festival.
PM will interact with farmer drone pilots as well as witness open-air drone demonstration.

On May 28, 2022 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Nano Urea (Liquid) Plant manufactured at IFFCO, Kalol (Gujarat). He also addressed the leaders of various cooperative institutions on ‘Sahakar Se Prosperity’ at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. The Nano Urea (Liquid) Plant, approximately Rs.175 crore, will provide the means to help farmers increase productivity and increase their income. The plant will produce around 1.5 lakh bottles of 500 ml capacity per day.

Notes:
Bandhan Express, which runs between India and Bangladesh, recently resumed service after two years, which was earlier stopped due to the Covid pandemic.
Maitree Express also resumed services after a long gap of more than two years. Bandhan Express between Kolkata and Khulna runs two days a week, Maitree Express connects Kolkata with Dhaka running five days a week.

Notes:
The United States overtook China to become India’s top trading partner in the year 2021-22. According to Commerce ministry, in 2021-22, bilateral trade between the US and India stood at USD 119.42 billion as against USD 80.51 billion in 2020-21.
Both imports from USA and exports to the USA increased in the year. During 2021-22, India’s trade with China stood at USD 115.42 billion as compared to USD 86.4 billion in 2020-21.
