Odisha signs 18 renewable energy MoUs tied to investment proposals of about ₹1.18 lakh crore
Odisha signed 18 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) at the India Renewable Energy Summit and Exhibition 2026 on 3 November 2026. The event was held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The MoUs are linked to investment proposals worth about ₹1,17,557 crore and projects expected to add around 11,742 megawatts of renewable electricity generation capacity in the state.
Proposed project areas
The proposals cover pumped storage, solar power, wind power, hybrid renewable energy, battery storage, green hydrogen and green data centres, along with other emerging technologies. The investment figure represents proposals tied to the MoUs; the stated generation capacity is expected from the proposed projects.
Important Facts for Exams
- Pumped-storage cycle: Pumped-storage plants use surplus electricity to raise water to an upper reservoir, then release it through a turbine when demand rises.
- Solar conversion routes: Photovoltaics convert sunlight directly into electricity; concentrated solar power instead focuses sunlight to produce heat and drive a turbine.
- Wind-turbine converter design: Variable-speed wind turbines use power converters to decouple rotor speed from grid frequency; doubly-fed induction generators typically require only partial-rated converters.
- Flow-battery scalability: In redox-flow batteries, energy is stored in liquid electrolytes held in external tanks, allowing storage duration and output power to be scaled largely independently.
