Maharashtra makes Lek Ladki scheme applications available online through MahaDBT 2.0
On 1 November 2026, Maharashtra made applications for the Lek Ladki scheme available directly through the MahaDBT 2.0 portal. Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare announced the change under a Government Process Re-engineering (GPR) exercise.
Application process moved online
Registration, scrutiny, application approval and approval of benefits have been streamlined online, and the number of documents required has been reduced. Applicants can also check their application status on the portal.
Previously, applicants had to submit applications at a nearby Anganwadi centre before they were entered into the scheme portal. Residents anywhere in Maharashtra can now apply online, including people in areas without an operational Anganwadi centre. The shift concerns the application process; the decision to transfer scheme benefits directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer had been made earlier.
Important Facts for Exams
- Payment routing: Direct Benefit Transfer uses the Public Financial Management System, formerly CPSMS, as a common platform for routing payments to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
- Beneficiary linkage: DBT enrolment requires a bank account and Aadhaar, with the account linked first to Aadhaar and then to the relevant scheme.
- Scheme eligibility: Lek Ladki is a Maharashtra state scheme for girls in eligible yellow- or orange-ration-card households, with assistance structured around age and education milestones.
- Portal scope: MahaDBT is Maharashtra's unified online interface for applications to multiple state scholarship and welfare schemes, rather than a portal devoted to one programme.
