L&T Secures AI Data Centre Order Worth Up to ₹15,000 Crore

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on 13 August 2026 that it won a mega order valued between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore for an artificial intelligence infrastructure facility in India. The project is described as India’s largest single-cluster AI infrastructure facility and will be executed through L&T’s AI infrastructure subsidiary, LTN Compute, and its digital infrastructure arm, Vyoma.AI.

Project Structure and Execution

The contract was awarded by Together AI, a United States-based AI cloud platform co-founded and led by Vipul Ved Prakash. The facility is planned as an AI Factory for training, inference, and fine-tuning workloads, which are standard computing tasks in machine learning and generative AI systems.

Technical Features of the Facility

The project includes deployment of 10,000 NVIDIA B300 GPUs, which are graphics processing units used for parallel computing in AI workloads. The AI Factory will be hosted at Vyoma.AI’s Chennai data centre campus, which is planned as a gigawatt-scale infrastructure site. Phase 1 of the Chennai campus is designed for 250 MW capacity. The power infrastructure readiness has been stated at 150 MVA, a measure of apparent power used in electrical engineering and data centre planning.

AI Data Centres and Related Concepts

AI data centres are specialised facilities that house servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and power and cooling infrastructure for high-performance computing. Large-scale AI facilities often use clusters of GPUs because AI model training requires parallel processing capacity. Gigawatt-scale data centre planning refers to very large electricity demand and infrastructure provisioning for compute-intensive digital services. Chennai has emerged as a major data centre location in southern India because of its connectivity, industrial base, and coastal infrastructure.

Important Facts for Exams

  • Larsen & Toubro is an Indian multinational engineering, procurement, and construction company.
  • GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit, and it is widely used in artificial intelligence and scientific computing.
  • MW means megawatt, while MVA means megavolt-ampere in power system terminology.
  • Chennai is one of India’s major data centre hubs in the southern region.

L&T is listed on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange. The announcement led to intraday gains in L&T shares on 13 August 2026.
