Indian Army Trains CISF Personnel at Agartala Airport

The Indian Army conducted a 14-day specialised training programme for Central Industrial Security Force personnel at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala, Tripura, from 27 July 2026 to 8 August 2026. The programme was organised under the Spear Corps and the Red Shield Division, and it covered tactical skills, aviation security, and contingency response methods.

Training at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport

Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, also called MBB Airport, is a civil airport in Agartala and a regional gateway near the Bangladesh border. The airport recorded a passenger footfall of 15 lakh during the 2025–26 financial year.

The training module included practical and theoretical sessions on industrial security, Quick Reaction Team drills, vital area protection, access control, perimeter hardening, and high-speed contingency responses. Army instructors handled the sessions as part of a military-civil fusion initiative between the Indian Army and the CISF.

Central Industrial Security Force and Aviation Security

The Central Industrial Security Force is a central armed police force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It provides security to industrial units, airports, metro systems, and other critical installations in India.

Aviation security at Indian airports includes passenger screening, baggage checks, access control, perimeter security, and response to unlawful interference. Quick Reaction Teams are trained to respond to security incidents within airport premises and adjoining protected zones.

Spear Corps and Red Shield Division

The Spear Corps is a formation of the Indian Army based in the eastern sector, and the Red Shield Division functions under its command structure. Army formations in the eastern region have operational responsibilities along India’s north-eastern frontier.
