Karnataka’s Semiconductor Park to Become Operational by December 2026

Karnataka has planned a 200-acre Semiconductor Park at KWIN City near Bengaluru, with operationalisation targeted for December 2026. The park is part of the Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation City project and is designed for chip manufacturing, packaging, testing, and electronics production.

Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystem

Semiconductors are materials with electrical conductivity between conductors and insulators, and they are used in integrated circuits, sensors, and electronic devices. Semiconductor parks usually provide shared infrastructure for fabrication, assembly, testing, and related industrial services. The Karnataka park is intended to support the full product cycle from design and development to prototyping, testing, certification, and export. Such industrial clusters are used in electronics manufacturing to reduce logistics costs and improve supply-chain coordination.

Investment and Industrial Policy

Karnataka has approved investments worth Rs 23,000 crore in the semiconductor and advanced Electronics System Design and Manufacturing sectors over the past two years. These projects are projected to generate more than 3,500 high-skilled engineering jobs. Lam Research has announced an investment of Rs 15,901 crore, Applied Materials India has announced Rs 4,851 crore, and Bharat Semi Systems has announced Rs 2,342 crore in the state. Electronics System Design and Manufacturing, commonly called ESDM, covers the design, development, manufacture, and testing of electronic products and components. The state government plans to integrate Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises into the semiconductor supply chain. MSMEs are classified in India under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, and they form a large part of the industrial vendor base.

Industrial Policy and International Partnerships

Karnataka is also finalising its Aerospace and Defence Policy 2026-31. The policy framework includes electronic warfare systems, e-VTOL aircraft, embedded software, and space technologies. The state has been engaging with Luxembourg and Japan for investment and technology partnerships in industrial and semiconductor ecosystems. Bengaluru is already a major technology and aerospace hub in India, with several electronics and engineering firms operating in the region.
