Jharkhand signs MoU with SRFTI for first film institute

Jharkhand Film Development Corporation Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute on 22 July 2026 to establish the Jharkhand Film and Television Institute in Ranchi. The institute will function as Jharkhand’s first dedicated film and television training centre and will begin operations from Suchna Bhawan in Ranchi.

Institute structure and administration

The Jharkhand Film and Television Institute will be developed by Jharkhand Film Development Corporation Limited, while the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute will handle academic functions. These functions include course design, curriculum development, faculty support, technical assistance, student assessment, and certification.

Courses and training areas

The institute will initially offer short-duration certificate courses in sound design, film editing, animation, script and screenplay writing, cinematography, direction, and film production. Undergraduate programmes have also been proposed for a later phase of expansion.

The Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata are the two established premier film training institutions in India. The new institute in Ranchi is planned as a third major centre in this category.
