The Union Government has recently launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) at Maldepur Morh in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh for providing free of cost LPG (cooking gas) connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. The tagline for the scheme is “Swachh Indhan, Behtar Jeevan”. The PMUY scheme will increase usage of LPG and will help in reducing health disorders due to usage of polluting conventional cooking fuels like wood, cowdung, etc. It will also reduce air pollution caused by smoke from solid fuel usage in kitchens and other places and will ensure reduced deforestation and cutting down trees for firewood.
