Bharat Green Hydrogen Summit 2026
The 2nd Bharat Green Hydrogen Summit 2026 was held on 23 July 2026 in New Delhi. The summit was organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, and it focused on green hydrogen, hydrogen-based mobility, and export competitiveness in the energy sector.
Green Hydrogen as an Energy Carrier
Green hydrogen is hydrogen produced using renewable electricity through electrolysis of water. It is classified as a low-carbon fuel when the electricity used in production comes from solar, wind, or other renewable sources. Green hydrogen is used in refining, fertiliser production, steelmaking, long-duration storage, and heavy transport applications.
National Green Hydrogen Mission and Policy Context
The National Green Hydrogen Mission is India’s central policy framework for developing hydrogen production, storage, transport, and end-use infrastructure. The mission supports domestic manufacturing of electrolysers, development of hydrogen hubs, and creation of demand in industrial sectors. Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik addressed the summit through a video message on 23 July 2026.
India’s Hydrogen Economy and Industrial Ecosystem
The summit theme was “Positioning India as a Global Hydrogen Hub”. Gujarat’s Minister of Energy and Petrochemicals Rushikesh Ganeshbhai Patel stated that Gujarat has renewable energy resources, ports, industrial infrastructure, and a Green Hydrogen Policy. Jyoti Vij, Director General of FICCI, stated that India aims to capture about 10% of the global green hydrogen market by 2030.
Important Facts for Exams
- Green hydrogen is produced by splitting water molecules using electricity from renewable sources.
- Electrolysis is the main process used for producing green hydrogen.
- Hydrogen-powered trains are part of hydrogen mobility technology in the transport sector.
- FICCI stands for the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry.
Report and Strategic Outlook
A FICCI-EY report titled “Towards a Green Hydrogen Economy: India’s Export Competitiveness and Strategic Outlook” was released during the summit on 23 July 2026. The report covered India’s export potential, industrial readiness, and pathways for becoming a competitive green hydrogen supplier.
Sectoral Participation and Applications
The summit included policymakers, industry leaders, public sector enterprises, technology providers, investors, financial institutions, researchers, and international stakeholders. India’s first indigenously developed hydrogen-powered train was cited as an example of domestic capability in hydrogen-based transport.
