Ballari-Guntakal Rail Project Gets Cabinet Nod

The Union Cabinet approved the Ballari-Guntakal rail multitracking project on 24 July 2026. The project covers the construction of third and fourth railway lines on the Ballari-Guntakal section across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of ₹1,264 crore.

Project Scope

The project adds about 46 km to the Indian Railways network. It is a multitracking project, which means additional railway lines are laid on an existing route to increase line capacity.

The Ballari-Guntakal section connects parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Ballari is in Karnataka, and Guntakal is an important railway junction in Andhra Pradesh.

The project is planned under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The PM Gati Shakti framework is a national initiative for integrated infrastructure planning and multimodal connectivity across transport sectors.
