Assam Raises Orunodoi Scheme Assistance to Rs 1,500

The Assam Cabinet approved a special increase in Orunodoi scheme assistance to Rs 1,500 for October 2026. The enhanced amount was announced as a one-time Durga Puja gift for beneficiaries under the state’s direct benefit transfer programme.

Orunodoi Scheme

Orunodoi is Assam’s flagship direct benefit transfer scheme launched in 2020. It provides monthly financial assistance to women from economically weaker households for poverty alleviation and household support.

Under Orunodoi 3.0, the regular monthly assistance is Rs 1,250. The updated version of the scheme aims to support about 25 lakh eligible women across all 35 districts of Assam.

Recent Assistance Changes

About 40 lakh beneficiaries are expected to receive the increased amount of Rs 1,500 for October 2026. In February 2026, beneficiaries received an advance Bohag Bihu package of Rs 8,000, which included Rs 5,000 for the January-April allowance and Rs 3,000 as a special Bihu gift.

In July 2026, beneficiaries in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat received enhanced assistance of Rs 2,500. These districts were among the flood-affected areas covered under the special payment.

Festival-Linked Support

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on 24 September 2026 that similar special assistance could be considered around Bohag Bihu in the future. Bohag Bihu is the Assamese New Year festival celebrated in April.
