Assam Launches Student Welfare Schemes for 7 Lakh Students

Assam launched the application form distribution for three student welfare schemes on 6 August 2026 at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. The schemes are Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina, Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu, and Shikhyarthee Sahayak Prayas (SSP), and they are planned for about 7 lakh students in the 2026–27 academic year.

Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Scheme

Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina is a girl-centric financial assistance scheme of the Assam government. Under the revised guidelines, eligible female students receive ₹800 per month for Class XI–XII and Polytechnic, ₹1,250 per month for undergraduate courses, and ₹2,500 per month for postgraduate and B.Ed. courses.

The assistance is payable for up to 10 months in each academic year. The scheme covers students in higher secondary, technical, undergraduate, and postgraduate education.

Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu and SSP

Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu is a new scheme for male students from families with an annual income below ₹4 lakh. Under this scheme, undergraduate students receive ₹1,000 per month and postgraduate students receive ₹2,000 per month.

Shikhyarthee Sahayak Prayas (SSP) provides one-time financial assistance for study materials. The scheme gives ₹1,000 to Higher Secondary students, ₹3,000 to undergraduate students, and ₹5,000 to postgraduate students.

Distribution and Implementation Framework

The Assam government scheduled physical form distribution across 452 educational institutions. The distribution began on 6 August 2026 for colleges and SCERT institutions, and on 7 August 2026 for secondary and technical schools.

The scholarship portal is scheduled to open on 14 August 2026 for online submissions. Institutional verification is planned between 17 August and 10 September 2026.

Flood-Affected School Support

Alongside the scheme rollout, ₹15.86 crore was transferred through direct benefit transfer to 793 flood-affected schools in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat. More than ₹4.26 crore was also distributed to 21,025 flood-hit students for educational supplies.
