Shahdol plans 10,000 fish cages at Bansagar reservoir, with installation work underway
Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh is preparing to install 10,000 fish cages at the Bansagar reservoir. Two companies began installation work in November, with each assigned 500 cages.
Planned expansion of fish farming
District Collector Parth Jaiswal directed officials to advance the work in a planned manner and in line with the target. The stated objective is to create income opportunities through fish farming for rural residents and farmers.
Important Facts for Exams
- Capture distinction: Aquaculture cultivates aquatic populations under controlled or semi-natural conditions; commercial fishing instead harvests wild fish.
- Cage-system setting: Offshore aquaculture uses cages in enclosed open-water sections, exposing cultured species to natural conditions such as water currents.
- Fish-farming methods: Fish farming is the most common form of aquaculture and commercially raises fish in tanks, ponds or ocean enclosures, usually for food.
