Rajasthan approves alignment for ₹225 crore Gulabganj–Mount Abu road project

On 2 November 2026, Rajasthan approved the alignment for a proposed 22-kilometre road from Gulabganj to Mount Abu, estimated to cost about ₹225 crore. The project is intended to provide an alternative route to the hill station.

Route and clearances

A state-level technical committee selected the alignment that follows an existing gravel road as the most suitable of three options. The route is expected to reduce the distance from Sirohi to Mount Abu from about 100 kilometres to around 55 kilometres. A Detailed Project Report is being prepared, with about ₹1 crore earmarked for it.

The proposed route passes through the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary. Forest Department clearance and other environmental approvals remain pending; the alignment approval does not mean road construction has begun. The project is also linked to an allocation of ₹225 crore from the Central Road Fund.
