The government has declared green growth as one of its major priorities for the 2023-24 financial year. In its effort to make India a cleaner and greener nation, the government has allocated Rs 5,172 lakh crores for the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME) Scheme. The government has also launched the PM PRANAM Scheme, which is aimed at reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and promoting alternatives to fertilizers.
Introduction to the PM PRANAM Scheme
The PM PRANAM Scheme stands for PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Nourishment, and Amelioration of Mother Earth. The main objective of the scheme is to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and promote the balanced use of chemicals. The government is planning to promote alternatives to fertilizers to achieve green growth and minimize the negative impact on the environment.
GOBAR DHAN Scheme: A Key Component of PM PRANAM
The PM PRANAM Scheme was launched under the GOBAR DHAN Scheme, which stands for Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan. During the budget announcement, the finance minister stated that 500 new “waste to wealth” plants will be established under the GOBAR DHAN scheme. Of these 500, 200 will be Compressed Biogas plants (75 in urban areas) and 300 will be cluster-based plants. The government has allocated Rs 10,000 crores for this initiative.
Benefits of the PM PRANAM Scheme
The PM PRANAM Scheme will benefit more than one crore farmers in India. The government’s initiative to promote alternatives to fertilizers will provide farmers with cost-effective and environmentally friendly options for maintaining soil fertility. The GOBAR DHAN Scheme will also promote the use of Compressed Bio Gas, which will help reduce waste and produce clean energy.
Promoting Compressed Bio Gas
The government has also stated that all natural and bio-mass marketers should include at least 5% of Compressed Bio Gas in their products. This will help increase the demand for Compressed Bio Gas, which will lead to the establishment of more waste to wealth plants. The increased use of Compressed Bio Gas will help reduce waste and produce clean energy, which will benefit both the environment and the people.
