Jharkhand plans to develop Chandil Dam as an eco-friendly tourism center
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited Chandil Dam in Seraikela-Kharsawan district with family members on 3 November 2026. He called for developing the dam as a modern, environmentally friendly tourism centre. Chandil Dam is built across the Subarnarekha River.
Development and visitor facilities
During a review with district officials, Soren directed them to accelerate stalled project work and strengthen water management and electricity-generation capacity. He also called for a long-term sustainable master plan that prioritises environmental balance and protects the natural ecosystem.
He directed officials to improve visitor safety, clean public facilities and boating services using safer, more advanced technology. Soren said eco-tourism could support local livelihoods, including employment for young people in guiding, hospitality and water sports.
