Gramin Gyan Setu App Launched in Gujarat

The Gramin Gyan Setu mobile application was launched on 12 August 2026 to digitally connect libraries in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. The launch coincided with National Library Day, which marks the birth anniversary of Padma Shri S. R. Ranganathan, a pioneer of library science in India.

Digital Library Network

The platform follows a hub-and-spoke model for library access in rural areas. It links smaller village libraries with four central libraries that together hold 2.80 lakh books. Officials stated that 752 libraries were interconnected within three months of system development.

Village Libraries and Book Collection

The project covers 63 initial village libraries across the Gandhinagar, Kalol, and Sanand assembly constituencies. Each facility is planned to house between 4,500 and 6,000 books, and some reports mention a range of 5,000 to 6,000 books per library.

Mobile Library Vans and Reading Material

Four mobile library vans funded through the MPLAD grant will visit villages every fortnight. The vans will collect issued books and deliver new books requested through the app.
