Social activist Kailash Satyarthi of the Bachpan Bachao Andolan was presented the coveted 2009 Defender of Democracy Award by the Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA). Satyarthi is the Chairperson of the Global March Against Child Labour and Founder of Bachpan Bachao Andolan
October 20, 2009: Arsha Kala Bhushanam awards
M S Gopalakrishnan (violin), N Ramani (flute), Umayalpuram K Sivaraman (Mridangam), A K C Natrajan (clarinet) and T V Sankaranarayanan (vocalist) were presented Arsha Kala Bhushanam awards during a music festival held in Coimbatore. Arsha Kalarangam, the cultural wing of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, a Vedic centre at Anaikatti in Coimbatore gives this award and this was the thrid edition.
October 20, 2009: 11th Osian’s-Cinefan Lifetime Achievement Award to Gulzar
Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival in Delhi presented the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award for Cinematic Contribution to Gulzar. He received the award in Gala Opening Ceremony of the 11th OCFF at Siri Fort in New Delhi on October 24, 2009. Eminent Film Director Mrinal Sen was the
winner of the Award last year.
October 20, 2009: DG’s insignia to 136 ITBP personnel
Indo-Tibetan Border Police officers and jawans were decorated with DG’s Insignia and commendation letters by ITBP Director General Vikram Srivastava on the occasion of 48th Raising Day of the force on October 20, 2009. The awards were given to 136 officers, subordinate officers and jawans in recognition of their exceptional service and outstanding performances in different fields.
October 20, 2009: Best ‘Jeanist’ Award to Japan’s First Lady
Japan’s First Lady Miyuki Hatoyama has become an ambassador for blue jeans after winning the Best Jeanist Award, a prize awarded to denim-wearing stars by Organisers Japan Jeans Association.
October 21, 2009: Crystal Globe Award to Girish Kasaravalli
Kannada filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli was honoured with the South Asian Cinema Foundation’s Excellence in Cinema Crystal Globe Award 2009. He has directed films like “Ghatashraddha” and “Hasina” and says his cinema is an exploration of life in visuals.
