Recently, Henri Kagan and Kenso Soai were awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their pioneering work on controlling the formation of a single molecular mirror image. Many molecules exist in two mirror-image forms, known as enantiomers, similar to the relationship between the left and right hands. Living organisms often use only one of these forms, a phenomenon called homochirality. Kagan and Soai’s work showed how chemical reactions can be controlled to favour one molecular mirror image over the other. This discovery is particularly important for pharmaceutical manufacturing, because two mirror-image forms of the same drug can have very different effects—one may provide the desired therapeutic effect while the other may cause harmful or unwanted effects.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 10th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 at Yashobhoomi (IICC), New Delhi. The premier four-day tech forum is organized jointly by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). The central theme of IMC 2026 is “Scale Without Boundaries”. They are structured around four strategic pillars: Srishti, Samvardhan, Sashakt and Suraksha.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Defence, launched JOSH (Joint Squad for Health) Teams at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Phase 1 rolls out across 55 districts in 11 states, mobilizing administrative Class-I officers, MY Bharat volunteers, and NCC cadets for youth-led grassroots action against tuberculosis under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. An AI-powered interactive chatbot named ‘Khushi Avatar’ was unveiled to drive community engagement, counter social stigma, and deliver verified public health awareness.

Recently, Nagaland launched the Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana (SAY-SOBLOK) through a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) and BRAC International. The programme is implemented under the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). SAY-SOBLOK aims to support 4,000 extremely vulnerable households in Nagaland and help them move out of poverty. The initiative combines household-level coaching, livelihood development, financial inclusion, access to government schemes and services, social empowerment and resilience-building.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the ‘Participate Mumbai’ initiative to foster collaborative governance among the state government, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), corporate bodies, NGOs, experts, and citizens. The platform extends beyond corporate social responsibility (CSR) mobilization to facilitate public-private partnerships across vital social sectors, including healthcare, education, water security, urban poverty alleviation, and environmental conservation. A strategic agreement between the BMC and the governance consulting entity Samagra was introduced to re-engineer administrative workflows and boost municipal service delivery efficiency.
