Recently, Scientists have confirmed a South Dakota man- Ernie LaPointe- as the great-grand son of the 19th century Native American leader Sitting Bull, by checking a sample of hair belonging to the leader.  Scientists took DNA from a tiny sample of Sitting Bull’s hair was stored in Washington DC.

A new indigenous ship, named ‘Sarthak’ was recently commissioned and dedicated to the nation in Goa. ICGS Sarthak will be based at Porbandar in Gujarat and operate on India’s Western Seaboard.
It will be operated under the Operational and Administrative Control of the commander of Coast Guard Region (Northwest). ICGS Sarthak is fourth in the series of five Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) that are being built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited for the Indian Coast Guard.

CAATSA-Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act is a 2017 law, which intends punish countries that did business with some countries including Russia.
Three Republican U.S. senators filed legislation to exempt India from sanctions for purchasing a Russian S400 missile defense system. This would create a 10-year exemption for member countries of the QUAD – Australia, Japan and India – from sanctions imposed by CAATSA.

The small island nation of Tonga has recently confirmed its very first case of COVID-19. Tonga has a population of about 105,700 people
Five hundred and ninety-seven days after the World Health Organization first identified the novel coronavirus as a pandemic, the country has reported its first case, from a traveller who arrived in the country on a flight from Christchurch, New Zealand. The Pacific nations of Tuvalu and Nauru are the only countries in the world to have not reported any COVID-19 cases.

The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on the protection of education in armed conflict named ‘Resolution 2601’.
The resolution won the unanimous support of the 15-member council. It strongly condemns all violations of international law involving the recruitment and use of children by parties to armed conflict, their killing, sexual violence and abductions. It also condemns attacks against schools and hospitals as well as denial of humanitarian access by parties to armed conflict.

An integrated Single Window Filming mechanism has been created by the Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The objective of the scheme is to make the permission for filming across Railways premises easier and more efficient. Under the mechanism, filmmakers can submit online applications for filming at various railway locations under jurisdiction of any zonal railways in a centralized way.

In the COP26 climate summit’s first major deal, as many as 110 world leaders promised to end and reverse deforestation by 2030.
Named ‘Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use’, the pledge includes 12 billion in public funds and 7.2 billion of private investment of public and private funds. A previous deal in 2014 had failed to slow deforestation at all.

A 20-member Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) has been constituted by the Government of India, to monitor the development and implementation of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
The Group would be headed by the Cabinet Secretary and its members would include Chairman of Railway Board, Secretaries of Dept. of Road, Ports, Civil Aviation, Petroleum, Telecommunication etc.

Tamil Nadu has set up first ever Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company, to professionally manage three critical natural conservation missions
The Company will manage the Tamil Nadu Climate Change, Tamil Nadu Green and Tamil Nadu Wetlands missions. The SPV’s authorised capital will be ₹5 crore and the State Environment Secretary will be the company’s chairperson and MD.
