The United Nations General Assembly has designated the 31st of October as World Cities Day. This year the theme is ‘Valuing Our Communities and Cities’.
The Day aims to promote international community’s interest in global urbanization and contribute to sustainable urban development around the world. UN-Habitat launched Urban October in 2014, to highlight the urban challenges around the world.

Notes:
The Government of India has proposed to import 10 lakh tonnes of potato, out of which 30,000 tonnes would be imported from Bhutan without license.
The import is being made in order to control the rise in prices of potato in India. The Centre has also planned to import 25,000 tonnes of onions before Diwali.

The nation’s central bank Reserve Bank of India has launched the latest round of Inflation Expectations Survey of Households (IESH). The survey would give vital inputs to RBI for framing the monetary policy.
The survey is conducted regularly in 13 cities namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.

As per the recent report released by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), 30 Indian cities will face increasing water risks in the next few decades.
According to the WWF Water Risk Filter report, 30 Indian cities, including Jaipur, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai among others, will face acute water risks. The report estimates that hundreds of millions of people in cities across the globe could face water risks.

TransUnion CIBIL in association with Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched the MSME Credit Health Index.
The index measures the growth and strength of the MSME sector in India. MSME Credit Health Index is built by TransUnion CIBIL using credit data furnished by lending institutions/ banks.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has recently reported that it has recently observed a mix of X-ray and radio signals that were never observed before in the Milky Way.
It also announced that the first fast radio burst (FRB) was also observed within the galaxy. The detection of the phenomenon called FRB was recently published in the journal ‘Nature’.

As per the recent statement from the Oil India Limited (OIL), it has brought in a snubbing unit from Calgary, Canada.
The snubbing unit is a special technology, which is to be deployed to tackle the Baghjan oilfield blow-out. The OIL-owned well erupted on May 27 and has been burning for over five months now.

A new air service between India and Bangladesh has commenced under the air-bubble arrangement. Vistara airlines launched its biweekly flight service from Delhi to Dhaka. The air-bubble arrangement between the two countries helps people to travel for medical, business and other purposes.
Air Bubbles are temporary arrangements between two countries that aim to restart commercial passenger services when regular international flights are suspended.

Japan has formally proclaimed Crown Prince Akishino as the first in line as heir to the throne.
Last year, his elder brother Emperor Naruhito became monarch. But as per the Japanese law, only males can inherit the throne, and so the only offspring of Naruhito, the 18-year-old Princess Aiko, is ineligible.

Notes:
The Union Sports Ministry has approved 6 centres as the Khelo India Centre of Excellence (KISCE). These centres would be upgraded at a cost of Rs 67.32 crore for FY 2020-21 and subsequent four years.
These centres have been identified in the states / UT of Assam, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Sikkim and Daman & Diu.
