Zuljanah: Iran’s Solid-fuelled Rocket
Iran recently launched a solid-fuelled rocket named “Zuljanah” into space.
About Zuljanah
- Zuljanah is a 25.5-meter-long, Iranian Satellite Launch Vehicle.
- It is capable of carrying a payload or satellite of 220 kilogram, into the orbit situated at 500 kilometres above the Earth.
- This satellite will gather data in low-earth orbit as well as promote Iran’s space industry.
- This rocket has been named for Imam Hussein’s horse, who was the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
- It is the first indigenously designed and indigenously manufactured hybrid fuel satellite launch vehicle.
- It is the third civilian Satellite Launch Vehicle, developed in Iran, after Safir and Simorgh.
- This road mobile needs very little fuelling time.
- It can be launched by Transporter-Erector Launchers (TELs).
How did US react?
USA criticized the launch of rocket as unhelpful and destabilizing. It noted that, it is committed to use sanctions and other measures for preventing further advances in ballistic missile program of Iran.
Who has made the launch vehicle?
The launch vehicle was made by Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics (Iran).
When was the rocket unveiled?
The Zuljanah rocket was unveiled on February 1, 2021. It was launched before February 1, 2021, into sub-orbital flight, for telemetry and testing purposes.
Dimensions and features
Zuljanah is 25.5 meters in length. It has a mass of 52 tons. First and second stages of the system utilize an identical 1.5m diameter solid-fuel engine. It has 74 tons of thrust. The third stage is Safir type 1.25m diameter liquid-fuel engine.
