Audio Odigos: Audio Guide facility App launched by Tourism Ministry

Union Ministry of Tourism launches Audio Guide facility App called ‘Audio Odigos’ for 12 sites of India (including Iconic Sites). The launch was made during the ongoing celebrations of nationwide ‘Paryatan Parv 2019’. This year is the 3rd edition of Paryatan Parv.

Key Highlights

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Gol Gumbad, Delhi with Government of Delhi and Resbird Technologies was also exchanged for development of Tourism Amenities during the programme at Paryatan Parv celebrations in New Delhi.

On the sidelines, a 26th MoU under Tourism Ministry’s ‘Adopt a Heritage, Apni Dharohar Apni Pehchan scheme was exchanged for development of Tourism Amenities. The project aims to develop synergy amongst all stakeholders and involves active participation of local communities and other key players to promote responsible tourism. Earlier, 42 Letters of Intent (LoI) have been issued to 38 agencies for 106 sites and 25 MoUs have been signed with 12 agencies for 23 sites and two technological interventions under the project across India.

Audio Guide: Audio Odigos app

The app is launched for the benefit of tourists. With Audio Odigos, tourists will now be able to enjoy a more enriching experience and take back historical insights of Indian culture and heritage. The app is now available for download on all Android and iOS supported mobile phones.

This app is the outcome of MoU signed by Tourism Ministry with Resbird Technologies in 2018 under which they have developed the audio guide app as a part of their Corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Features:

The Audio Odigos app contains an inbuilt map of site for a smooth navigation during tour of the site.

The Audio guide odigo offers Government of India verified content, with visuals & voice over support. Listeners will be offered various versions of history such as Podcasts, Synopsis and Detailed History. The audio can be chosen in their preferred language & version of history.

12 sites where Audio Guide facility Audio Odigos can be used-

  • Rajasthan- Amer Fort
  • Delhi- Chandni Chowk, Red Fort, Purana Quila and Humayun’s tomb
  • Uttar Pradesh- Fatehpur Sikri and Taj Mahal,
  • Gujarat- Somnath and Dholavira
  • Madhya Pradesh- Khajuraho
  • Tamilnadu- Mahabalipuram,
  • Bihar- Mahabodhi Temple

Adopt a Heritage: Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan

It is flagship scheme of Union Ministry of Tourism. The scheme is a collaborative effort between Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and State Governments or Union Territories Administrations.

Objective: To involve both public as well as private sector companies and corporate citizens/individuals to take up the responsibility of making heritage and tourism more sustainable in India.

The efforts involve development, operation and maintenance of world-class tourist infrastructure and amenities at ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) or State heritage sites and other important tourist sites in India.
