Archaeological evidence shows that all the major Indus sites including Lothal, Mohenjodaro and Harappa had direct trade contacts and exported goods to Mesopotamia. Specific Mesopotamian artifacts like seals, beads and gemstones have been found at these sites. Weight stones and dockyard prove Lothal was an important port and trading center. Seals from Mesopotamia are also evident at Chanhudaro. The trade declined around 1700 BCE likely due to climate change causing the river to shift.
