The Tana Bhagat Movement began in April 1914. It was led by Jatra Bhagat and Turia Bhagat among the Oraon tribe in Chotanagpur, Jharkhand. The movement opposed British taxes, exploitative zamindars, moneylenders, and missionaries. Followers practiced non-violence and satyagraha, inspired by Gandhian principles. It protested against unpaid labor, land alienation, animal sacrifices, and alcohol use. The movement concluded in 1919 and later merged with the wider Indian nationalist struggle.
