The Chuar rebellion started between 1767 and 1833 in the Jungle Mahal area of Bengal and Jharkhand. It began after the British destroyed mud forts in Midnapore in 1767. The zamindar Jagannath Singh Patar led thousands of Bhumij tribesmen in rebellion in 1768. Several leaders, including Dubraj, Subla Singh, and Shyam Ganjan, intensified the revolt by 1771. The year 1769 falls within the early phase of this uprising.
