Handiya, also spelled Handia or Hadiya, is a traditional fermented rice beer from Jharkhand. It is prepared by tribal communities like Munda, Ho, Santhal, and Oraon using ranu tablets for fermentation in earthen pots. It contains 5-8% alcohol and has a hazy, mildly sour, sweet taste. Handiya is served at weddings, harvests, and rituals for its cooling and nourishing effects. It is a cultural drink passed down through generations in Jharkhand.
