Notes: Sir William Mark Tully, former BBC bureau chief, New Delhi, has been in that position for 20 years. He worked with the BBC for a total of 30 years before resigning in July 1994. Recipient of several awards, Tully has authored nine books. He is a member of the Oriental Club. His book The Heart of India is based on rural themes in India.
