Qutb-ud-din Aibak, a former slave of Muhammad Ghori, founded the Mamluk Dynasty (Slave Dynasty), the first of five dynasties in India's Delhi Sultanate (1206-1290). The rulers were Ilbari Turks, known as Mamluk Sultans. Aibak commissioned the Qutb Minar, completed by Iltutmish, who also standardized currency with the silver tanka and copper jital. Razia Sultan, the first female ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, was from this dynasty.
