1908 A.D.
The Chotanagpur Tenancy Act was enacted in 1908 A.D. It received the Governor General's assent on 29 October 1908 and came into force on 11 November 1908. This Act was published in the Calcutta Gazette as Bengal Act 6 of 1908. It amended and consolidated laws on landlord-tenant relations in the Chota Nagpur region. The Act protects tribal land rights by restricting transfers to non-tribals and applies to North and South Chotanagpur and Palamau Divisions.
