Notes: Mining is the activity of obtaining minerals from the surface of the earth or from the rocks from below the surface. 
Sometimes the minerals occur at great depths and in order to mine them deep tunnels are made below the surface. These tunnels may extend several kilometres and may be very deep. Mining by this method is called Shaft mining.
