Tamil Nadu Resolution against CUET

The government of Tamil Nadu has adopted a resolution urging the government of India to drop the CUET (Central Universities Common Entrance Test) proposal. Except for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the resolution was unanimously supported by all other parties. The resolution was tabled by Chief Minister M K Stalin in the state assembly.

Argument against CUET

In the resolution passed by the state, the assembly stated that an entrance exam based on the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus will not be providing equal opportunity to all the students as there are varied state boards across the country.
Tamil Nadu government has argued that due to CUET the number of students studying in various central universities in the state and their affiliated colleges would be reduced.
Also, the state government argued that the CUET will not be able to uplift the marginalized students of society.

About CUET

The CUET was introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and through this exam, admission will be given to students in the 45 central universities across the country. The exam will do away with weightage of the marks of class 12 and instead admission will be given based on the performance of the students in this exam.
