IAF participation in Tactical Leadership Programmes

The Indian Air Force is taking part in ‘Tactical Leadership Programme’, that started on June 24, 2022.

Tactical Leadership Programme

  • The Tactical Leadership Programme is being held at Egyptian Air Force Weapon School in Cairo west Airbase.
  • It was started on June 24 and will conclude on July 24, 2022.
  • From Indian side, two c-17 aircraft, three Su-30MKI aircraft and 57 IAF personnel including C-17 contingent are taking part.
  • It is a unique exercise, in which Air assets take part in a Large Force Engagement environment and simulate several conflict scenarios.
  • This exercise was launched with the aim of enhancing defence cooperation and exchanging best practices, between India and Egypt.

Significance of the Programme

The Tactical Leadership Programme provides a unique opportunity, in the present geopolitical scenario, to showcase reach and capability of Indian Air Force. Though this exercise, India will get an opportunity to showcase the Su-30 MKI, that has been manufactured by HAL, in India. It will also provide an opportunity to showcase India’s expertise for deeper indigenisation of components and spares.

Tactical Leadership Programme

The Tactical leadership programme is also known as the Pilot School of NATO. It is an international military organization, that was formed by 10 permanent member countries, NATO countries and invited countries from outside NATO. 10 permanent member countries include Denmark, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, United States and United Kingdom. It is a multinational centre, providing advanced training for pilots and crews. It aims at improving the operability and effectiveness of Allied Air Forces.

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)

NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance of 30 member states, including 28 European countries and 2 North American countries. It was established after World War II. NATO is a collective security, wherein independent member states defend each other, when attacked by third parties.
