World Mangrove Day is observed every year on July 26. The 2025 theme is “Protect Wetlands for Our Future.” Mangroves grow in estuarine areas and support rich biodiversity. The Sundarbans in West Bengal is a major mangrove forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a tiger conservation centre. Mangroves help in absorbing shocks from cyclones and supercyclones. They also aid in transmitting radio waves which are vital for rescue operations during disasters.
