Notes: Amrit Mahal is a breed of cattle that originated in the state of Mysore in Karnataka. The name literally means "department of milk". The rulers of Mysore State established the herd between 1572 and 1636 AD to increase milk production. The herd was collected from the prevalent types of cattle in the area to supply milk and milk products to the palace. The Amrit Mahal breed originated from the Hallikar and closely related breeds, Hagalavadi and Chitradurga. They come in mainly shades of gray and white to nearly black. Some cows have definite patterns of white-gray marking. Economic Survey 2022-23 mentioned development of conservation and development of Indigenous Breeds of cattle like Krishna Valley, Amruth mahal, Khillar and Deoni.
