Q. Why was the 'Tendulkar Committee' formed?
Answer: To measure poverty
Notes: The Suresh Tendulkar Committee was constituted in 2009to 'report on methodology of estimation of poverty'. It came out with a new method to calculate poverty. It is recommended to shift away from the calorie based model and made the poverty line somewhat broad based by considering monthly spending on education, health, electricity and transport also.
