Notes: Surendranath Banerjee is often referred to by the state as the 'Teacher of the Nation'; 10 November 1848 - 6 August 1925) was an Indian nationalist leader during British rule. He founded a nationalist organization called the Indian National Association and was one of the founding members of the Indian National Congress. Surendranath, unlike the Congress, rejected the Montagu-Chelmsford reforms and, along with many other liberal leaders, left the Congress and formed a new organization, the Indian National Liberation Federation, in 1919.
