Pulakeshin I (reigned c. 543–566 CE) was the founder of the Badami Chalukya dynasty. He established the kingdom with its capital at Badami, originally known as Vatapi, in modern-day Karnataka, India. He was the first sovereign ruler of the dynasty, which reigned over the Deccan region from the 6th to the 8th century.
