Sarojini Naidu (1947–1949. a renowned freedom fighter and poet, served as the first Governor of the United Provinces (Uttar Pradesh) from 15 August 1947 until her death on 2 March 1949. She holds the distinction of being independent India’s first woman Governor. Naidu had been a prominent figure in the freedom movement and brought grace to the Governor’s office in the state’s initial post-independence years.
