V.K.R.V. Rao
V.K.R.V. Rao estimated India's national income using scientific methods in 1931. He applied modern statistical techniques, which differed from earlier estimates by Dadabhai Naoroji that lacked such rigor. V.K.R.V. Rao's work laid the methodological foundation for national income accounting in India. In 1949, the government set up a National Income Committee furthering this work. Official national income compilation started in the 1950s by government statistical agencies.
