Babulal Marandi became the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand on November 15, 2000, when the state was formed. He was a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served until March 18, 2003. Jharkhand was created by separating from Bihar. Marandi initiated various developmental schemes during his tenure. Later Chief Ministers included Arjun Munda, Shibu Soren, Madhu Koda, and Raghubar Das.
