Notes: Govind Sadashiv Ghurye was born in 1893 in Malwan, Maharashtra. He founded the Indian Sociological Society in 1951. He led the first postgraduate Sociology department at the University of Bombay from 1924 to 1959. He authored "Caste and Race in India" in 1932. He edited the Sociological Bulletin. He died in 1983.
