Sehtar was invented by Amir Khusrau, it is a three stringed musical instrument. It is a member of the lute family and is usually played through the index finger of the right hand. Amir Khusrau was born in 1253 AD in a town called Patiali in Etah (Uttar Pradesh) on the banks of the Ganges. He was the son of Turk Saifuddin of the Lachan caste of Central Asia. The Turks of the Lachan caste settled in India as refugees during the reign of Balba (1266–1286 AD) after suffering the invasions of Genghis Khan.
