Vitthal Ramji Shinde
Vitthal Ramji Shinde (23 April 1873 – 2 January 1944), popularly known as Maharshi Shinde, was a prominent social and religious reformer in Maharashtra. A member of the Prarthana Samaj, he dedicated his life to the removal of untouchability and the upliftment of the depressed classes. In 1906, he founded the Depressed Classes Mission Society of India in Mumbai to provide education and social integration for Dalits. He was a prolific scholar and writer whose work, The Problem of Untouchability in India, remains a foundational text in Indian sociology and social reform.
