Farbes, the local commissioner, suppressed the Munda Ulgulan (1899-1900) in Jharkhand's Chhotanagpur region. The revolt was led by Birsa Munda against British exploitation. Farbes, with Deputy Commissioner H.C. Streattfield and 150 troops, defeated Munda guerrillas at Dombari Hill. Birsa Munda escaped but was later arrested on February 3, 1900. The British imposed administrative lockdowns, resulting in approximately 400 Mundas killed. The Khuntkatti land rights were reinstated by 1903, followed by the enactment of the Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act in 1908.
