In 1820, after Major Rufus entered Kolhan, the British defeated the Ho tribe on the banks of the Doro River near Chaibasa. This battle suppressed the initial Ho Rebellion (1820-21) in Singhbhum. The Ho tribe continued resistance in southern Kolhan. Further conflicts occurred in 1821 under Colonel Richard and the 1831-32 Kol Rebellion. Exploitation by the British and local landlords, including Raja Jagannath Singh, were key causes of unrest.
