Fats consist of a wide group of compounds that are generally soluble in organic solvents and generally insoluble in water. Chemically, fats are triglycerides, triesters of glycerol and any of several fatty acids. Fats may be either solid or liquid at room temperature. These fats and oils on complete oxidation produce more energy as compared to other nutrients i.e. proteins and carbohydrates. A gram of fat is known to produce 2.5 times more energy than a gram of carbohydrate.
