Tana Bhagat movement
The Tana Bhagat movement was started by Jatara Oraon in 1914 in Chotanagpur, present-day Jharkhand. It aimed to eliminate practices like animal sacrifice and alcoholism, and opposed exploitative zamindars and British taxes through non-violence. This movement was distinct from the religious movement of Birsa Munda in the 1890s and the Kherwar movement. The movement evolved from socio-religious reform to political resistance against colonial rule.
