A computer memory that contains fixed information and retains its programmed state as long as the power is on is known as static memory. Random Access Memory (RAM) is referred to as volatile memory and is lost when the power is turned. However, Read Only Memory (ROM)is non-volatile and the contents are retained even after the power is switched off. No power source is required to maintain the bit values in ROM memory.
